On Saturday 28th of November we held our annual DTL Champion of Champions shoot where all Overall winners from each event and the High Gun have their named enscribed on the clubs honour board as well as some great cash prizes up for grabs.
We had originally hoped to host this event in October but due to Covid19 a last minute program change allowed us to hold the event ensuring the shooters had at least one great event at the club for the remainder of the year.
57 shooters entered the day's events which all ran like clock work with 3 layouts working perfectly and a 4th one all set up ready if need be.
Event 1 got underway at 11:15am with cloudy overvcast and humid conditions and a gentle breeze. Visiting shooter Blair Caldwell showed us all how it was done recording a 119/120 in the 40 target Point Score to win it outright and take home the spoils. It was also great to see our junior shooters in Lucien and Ben clean the C grade prizes

Event 2 was 20 target Single Barrel and the breeze had picked up a little more now but 7 shooters managed to record a perfect 20/20. Damien Mould missed his first one out, Chippa Chant dropped his 7th and started the rot!!! Bobby Lambevskimissed his 8th, Geoff McClure his 9th, Darryl Johnston his 11th leaving Andrew Brady the WHITE HOT favourite to roll our Treasurer Peter Wood who even he was shocked that he was still going. Andrew was going for 3 years in a row of winning this event and the engravers had already starting etching his name on the board when he let target number 17 land and the huge roar went up for Woody!!! Event 3 - 40 Target Double Barrel and the conditions now were absolutely perfect for shooting and all the big boys had put red on the board with 2 squads of possibles. After 2 rounds we were down to 3 shooters who looked well and truly settled. Skye, Andrew Fiek and Mitch Iles. On and On they went with all shooters leaving puffs of ink, specially Skye who looked right on form. They all shot the 4th round clean, the 5th round with time running out we bought them back to 20m. This didnt stop them from getting more soot!! On his 125th shoot off target Mitch fired 2 unsuccessful shots leaving just 2 for the next 25.
Back to 22m they came and a further 8 targets we had a winner with Fieky shooting 173/173 outlasting Skye on 172/173

This just left the Overall High Gun which was again a clean win by Damien Mould on 2 points down with 178/180. This is the 2nd time in 3 years Damien has won the High Gun and we will arrange a nice sash of his choice of colour with his name printed on it.

So concluded another great week at MGC!!
Next weekend we have our Club Skeet Championship on so it would be great to have a good turn out of skeet at the club!!!
