FGA - Field and Game Australia
SCA - Sporting Clays Australia
SSAA - Sporting Shooters Association of Australia
Are visitors allowed to shoot?
Yes, under the following conditions:
If you are not a member of any of these Australian shooting organisations ACTA, FGA, SCA, SSAA:
Then you are permitted to attend a maximum of THREE of our Come & Try Days only, shooting under supervision of an approved supervisor. Come and try days are available strictly by booking and appointment only. A firearms licence is not required for these sessions.
If you are a Sporting Clays Australia or SSAA member who is not registered with the ACTA:
Then you are permitted to attend a maximum of THREE of our Come & Try Days only shooting under supervision of an approved supervisor. Strictly by booking and appointment only.
If you are a Field & Game Australia Member who is not registered with the ACTA:
Then you are permitted to participate in Field & Game Australia activities only on approved FGA days and/or layouts.
If you are a Melbourne Gun Club member registered with ACTA or ACTA member of an affiliated club:
Then you are permitted to shoot in all competitions and practice days for DTL, Skeet, ISSF & 5 Stand Sporting.
By not abiding by the above conditions means both you & the club are NOT covered by any insurance. No exceptions will be made to the above.
Failure to abide by these rules will result in automatic expulsion from the Melbourne Gun Club grounds and a report to the Regulatory Authorities.
All non-ACTA members must have approval from club management prior to shooting.

How do I obtain a firearms licence?
Victorian firearms licences are issued by the Victoria Police Licensing and Regulation Division. The process for obtaining a licence is covered here.
What guns are permitted at Melbourne Gun Club?
Only shotguns may be fired over the MGC grounds. Approved shotguns are:
- Single Barrel
- Double Barrel
- Semi-automatic, limited to 2 cartridges and shooter must hold the appropriate licence
The following shotguns are NOT permitted at Melbourne Gun Club:
- Bolt action
- Lever action
- Pump action
What ammunition is permitted at Melbourne Gun Club?
- Shot size No. 7 to No. 9 or smaller
- 12 gauge, 410 gauge and 20 gauge
- Lead shot only
The following ammunition is NOT permitted at Melbourne Gun Club:
- Steel shot
- Black powder
- Shot size larger than No. 7 (i.e. No. 6, No. 5, No. 4 etc.)
Are EFTPOS and credit card facilities available?
EFTPOS, Mastercard and Visa are accepted at Melbourne Gun Club.
Is ammunition available for purchase?
A range of Bronzewing 12 gauge ammunition is available for purchase at the club (credit card and EFTPOS only). A current firearms licence is required to purchase this.
How much do targets cost for practice?
DTL, Trench, Skeet and Five stand targets are $10 for 25 targets - Melbourne Gun Club Members.
DTL, Trench, Skeet and Five stand targets are $14 for 25 targets - Visitors.
