MGC - South East Zone Report @ Morwell
12 Melbourne Gun Club members made the trek to Morwell on Saturday for a perfect day of shooting. An overcast morning bloomed into a perfect autumn day with over 150 shooters in attendance.
The new facility at Morwell is absolutely fantastic with 4 DTL layouts installed, 2 ISSF Trench layouts and a great club house with handy verandah.
The first event being 25 Handicap, and we had Chloe Hughes Gage and Wally Kotlarewski shoot the 25/25 of the Melbourne crew with Damien Milhuisen, Tom Caldwell, Nathan Naylor all shooting respectable 24/25.
Chloe and Wally unfortunately didn’t make the winner's list but it was a great effort for them to make the shoot off!
This had our Junior Team off to a ripper start on 49/50 and in the lead, and our open teams needing a bit of luck in the DB.
After a short break where a special presentation was made to Brooke McMillan for life membership in the zone! Well deserved Brooke!!
The Medley got underway and boy were there some 25’s to come in. Plenty of Melbourne members to hit the 25 with Chloe, Damo, Stephen Swain, Roger Esplin, Craig Henwood, Tom Caldwell and Riley Hughes Gage all getting off to a clean start.
For the teams it saw Melbournes' top scoring team on 232/250 falling short of the 240 needed to win! Our Junior team of Nathan and Chloe performed well shooting 91/100, only 3 targets short of the home team Morwell!!
Into the Points and it was only Craig & Damo from MGC who were able to get a 100/100 on the board with Craig ending up in 2nd in AA GRADE. Stephen Swain taking 2nd in B GRADE and Damo second in A GRADE.
Damien then shot off for the OA high gun for the day being 1 point down! In fading light it wasn’t to be with Andrew Brady taking the honours.
A great day was had by all and we thank all MGC members who made the trek to represent OUR club!!
The next round of the Zone series is on Sunday 14th of June held by MCC @ Werribee! Again we would love to have as many shooters from Melbourne in attendance!!
A great effort by Morwell to put on such a great event! Plenty of members chipping in loading traps and helping in the canteen! A great effort to ensure a great day for all!! Well done Morwell and SE Zone!
