Melbourne Gun Club Shoot Report – Saturday 25th July
Despite a cold winter’s day filled with drizzle, dark clouds and miserable weather, we still had 5 squads brave the conditions for our 100 Target Mixed Targets event.
The morning also saw a full book of Come & Try participants, with everyone thoroughly enjoying their introduction to clay target shooting. A huge thank you to Jacqui and her fantastic team for once again making the morning such a success.
We were also pleased to welcome a Herald Sun reporter and photographer to the club to interview some of our junior shooters regarding the proposed Victorian legislation affecting junior shooting.
A big thank you to Riley, Chloe, Aimee, Dylan and Nathan for taking the time to speak with the reporter and pose for photos. The photographer had each of them break around 15 targets for the camera and, impressively, not a single target was missed! 🎯👏
Keep an eye out for the Herald Sun this week (possibly Wednesday) for the story.
There was also plenty of excitement during the competition, with $500 cash on offer, courtesy of Craig Henwood, for anyone who could shoot a perfect scorecard. Ironically, Craig came the closest to claiming his own prize, dropping just his final target of the third leg (Single Barrel) to finish on an outstanding 149/150. We’ll let everyone decide whether that last miss was bad luck… or a clever way of saving himself $500! 😄
Thanks to an anonymous donor, we also had a $250 Mystery Number Jackpot. The lucky number drawn was 4, meaning anyone whose score ended in a 4 qualified for a shoot-off.
The finalists were:
* Dallas Ball – 134
* Brian Hearne – 134
* Steven Fox – 114
Unfortunately, Dallas had already headed home, leaving Brian and Steven to battle it out over a Mixed Meterage shoot-off. After a great contest, Brian Hearne claimed the $250 cash jackpot.
Congratulations Brian! It’s fantastic to see you back on the layouts after two knee replacements, and even better to see you taking home the cash.
