GREG HUNT WINS THE INAUGURAL JACK HENWOOD DOUBLE BARREL 
What a fantastic Saturday at Melbourne Gun Club!
Saturday 22 August was a perfect day for shooting, with 63 DTL shooters making up 11 squads, along with two squads of Skeet shooters. On top of that, we had a full 30 people for our Come & Try and another 30 people for our Corporate Day, making the grounds absolutely buzzing with activity and excitement!
And there was one big question for the dayβ¦
Who would be the first name on the Jack Henwood Cup?
JACK HENWOOD DOUBLE BARRELCongratulations to Greg Hunt from Frankston CTC, who became the inaugural winner of the Jack Henwood Double Barrel, putting together an outstanding 121/121 to take the Open title and claim the Cup. A fantastic performance!

THE STORY BEHIND THE CUPThe Jack Henwood Double Barrel is about much more than just a dayβs shooting.
Jack has been a long-time member and Life Member of Melbourne Gun Club, beginning his committee involvement at the old Croydon club when he was just 15 years old. Croydon later moved through an amalgamation to our current home here at Yering.
A request from Bill Iles to the club to hold an event in Jackβs honour was accepted by the Committee, and we were delighted to see the inaugural event finally take place.
Jack has plenty of stories from the good old days β when DTL targets were βrealβ targets rather than the lollipops we shoot today, and when nobody would bother watching a club shoot-off until you had reached 150!
Jack, together with his father Rupert and others, worked tirelessly three days a week for more than 12 months, completely unpaid, preparing the club grounds for the 1973 World Championships.
His father Rupert even put the family home up as collateral to ensure the club had the funds to make it happen.
Jack has always credited his wife Moira for supporting him throughout his shooting journey β a journey that included a New Zealand National Double Barrel title, Australian National Double Barrel runner-up, an Australian Long Run record of 732 straight, as well as numerous District, Zone, State and Commonwealth titles.
It is a fantastic history, and we are very proud to have an event that recognises Jackβs enormous contribution to our club and the sport of clay target shooting.

We are truly thankful for everyone who puts their hand up and help make days like this happen. It is the people behind the scenes who keep Melbourne Gun Club moving, and we couldnβt do it without you.
The day finished off perfectly with a free sausage sizzle, plenty of laughs, and everyone enjoying a cool beverage or two after a great dayβs shooting.
