LEVEE BANK PROJECT – MEMBER UPDATE
We have had a few members asking recently about the progress of the proposed levee bank works, so we thought it was time to provide a quick update.
Firstly, the project has not been abandoned and it is certainly not sitting still.
There has been a significant amount of work happening behind the scenes to get the project to the point where the necessary approvals and funding are in place.
The proposed works have been developed in consultation with the relevant authorities, and the project has received the necessary approvals from Melbourne Water and DEECA for the proposed approach.
The club has also submitted our application for funding assistance through the Yarra Ranges Council Capital Development Grant, which we hope will help make the project financially achievable for the club.
We have now been advised by the Shire that our grant submission has been received correctly and is being assessed. We are expecting to know in early September whether we have been fortunate enough to receive the grant funding.
The committee remains more than confident that, subject to the grant outcome and final project arrangements, the levee bank works can be completed this year.
We understand everyone is keen to see the levee bank raised, particularly after the flooding the club has experienced in recent years and, more recently, the heavy rainfalls we have received which always makes all of us nervous! -( the club is fine by the way there’s been no flooding out this way).
We also want members to know that the committee is treating this project as a priority. The club is currently minimising expenditure on other projects wherever possible so that we can preserve our financial resources and give ourselves the best possible position to complete the levee bank works.
There are also a couple of additional matters being worked through as part of the project, including an arborist assessment relating to two trees.
So, while members may not see machinery moving around the club just yet, there is a considerable amount of work happening behind the scenes.
We understand the frustration of members who want to see the project underway, and the committee is equally keen to get the levee bank raised. However, this is a significant project for the club and we need to ensure the approvals, funding and project arrangements are properly in place before commencing.
We will continue to keep members updated as the project progresses.

The project is very much alive, the committee remains confident it can be delivered this year, and we are working hard to make it happen.
